The basics

What is AdBlue?

AdBlue is the registered trade name for AUS32 diesel exhaust fluid — a precisely formulated solution used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems fitted to modern diesel engines to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

Without AdBlue, SCR-equipped engines cannot operate within legal emission limits. In many vehicles, running without it will trigger a speed restriction or prevent the engine from starting entirely.

AdBlue is not an additive that goes into your fuel tank. It's injected into the exhaust stream ahead of the SCR catalyst, where it breaks down NOx into harmless nitrogen and water vapour.

It's not optional for your fleet. It's engineering-critical.

Every batch of AdBlue supplied by Capital Supplies is:

  • Sourced from an Australian-based ISO 22241-certified manufacturer
  • Tested against ISO 22241-1:2019 specifications before dispatch
  • Supplied with a Certificate of Conformity (available on request)
  • Accompanied by a current Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
  • Fully traceable from production batch to delivery

Why does this matter? Poor quality AdBlue — diluted product, contaminated batches, or off-spec urea concentration — will damage your SCR catalyst. SCR catalyst replacement can cost $15,000–$80,000 per vehicle. Product quality is not a nice-to-have.

We don't source from grey-market channels. Every litre is certified.

How it works

How SCR Systems Use AdBlue

A simple chemical process that reduces NOx emissions by up to 90% — and is mandatory for compliance with modern emission standards.

How AdBlue and SCR system reduce diesel NOx emissions
1

Diesel Exhaust

Hot exhaust gases leave the engine containing nitrogen oxides (NOx) — a harmful pollutant regulated under Australian Design Rules.

2

AdBlue Injection

A small metered dose of AdBlue is injected into the exhaust stream. AdBlue decomposes into ammonia in the heat.

3

SCR Catalyst

Ammonia reacts with NOx across the catalyst surface. The reaction converts harmful NOx into harmless nitrogen (N₂) and water vapour (H₂O).

4

Clean Exhaust

The exhaust exits the system with NOx reduced by up to 90%, meeting Euro V and Euro VI emission standards.

Typical consumption: 3–5% of diesel fuel volume. For a vehicle using 1,000L diesel per week: approximately 30–50L of AdBlue per week. Heavy commercial vehicles (B-doubles, articulated trucks): 5–8L per 100km. Buses in urban stop-start operation: 6–10L per 100km.

Who Uses Our AdBlue

Across government, transport, mining, agriculture, construction and council operations — we deliver on schedule, with documentation.

Government and Public Transport

Bus fleets, municipal vehicles, emergency services, government agency fleets. Scheduled supply with compliance documentation on every delivery.

Commercial Transport and Logistics

Trucking operators, freight companies, distribution fleets. Bulk delivery with flexible scheduling around depot operations.

Mining and Resources

Remote and regional mining operations. High-volume consumption in heavy equipment. Reliable scheduled supply with batch traceability.

Agriculture

Tractors, harvesters, agricultural machinery fitted with SCR systems. IBC and drum supply for on-farm storage.

Construction

Excavators, loaders, graders, dump trucks. Site delivery to construction depots and laydown areas.

Local Councils

Council fleet vehicles, street sweepers, waste collection trucks. Proactive stock management, no emergency orders.

Storage

Storing AdBlue Correctly

AdBlue has a shelf life of 12–24 months when stored correctly. Improper storage degrades the product, affects concentration, and can contaminate your SCR system. The rules are straightforward.

Temperature

Store between 0°C and 25°C. Product freezes at −11°C but recovers on thawing without damage. Avoid sustained temperatures above 30°C.

Sunlight

Protect from direct sunlight and UV exposure. Covered or shaded storage is ideal.

Materials

Only HDPE and 316L stainless steel contact surfaces. Never store in copper, zinc, or aluminium containers — these contaminate the product and will damage your SCR catalyst.

Contamination

Keep containers sealed. Never mix AdBlue with any other fluid. A contaminated batch cannot be used — dispose correctly.

Labelling

All storage containers must be clearly labelled AUS32/AdBlue. Never store in unlabelled or previously used containers.

First In, First Out

Use older stock before newer stock. Rotate IBC and drum inventory.

If you're unsure about your storage setup, contact us before taking delivery. We'd rather check than have you deal with a contaminated SCR system.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions fleet managers ask most often. If yours isn't here, get in touch.

The same product. AUS32 is the ISO standard designation (Aqueous Urea Solution 32.5%). AdBlue is the registered trade name owned by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). Every litre of genuine AdBlue is AUS32. We supply AUS32 certified to ISO 22241-1:2019 — the same standard.

Any diesel vehicle fitted with an SCR system requires AdBlue. This includes most heavy commercial vehicles manufactured after 2010 (Euro V) and all heavy vehicles from 2015 onwards (Euro VI). Check your vehicle handbook or contact your manufacturer. Your dashboard will typically have a dedicated AdBlue level warning light.

Modern SCR-equipped vehicles are designed to prevent operation when AdBlue runs out. Depending on the vehicle and manufacturer, you'll see a warning light, then a speed restriction, and eventually the engine may refuse to start. Don't let it get to that point — our scheduled supply programs manage stock so this never happens.

If both products are genuinely ISO 22241-1:2019 certified, mixing is not harmful to the product. However, never mix AdBlue with any other fluid. Keep your storage containers dedicated to AdBlue only.

AdBlue freezes at −11°C. This is normal — it does not degrade the product. Allow it to thaw naturally before use. Do not apply heat directly to IBC or storage containers. Most vehicles with SCR systems have a tank heating element for cold conditions.

We provide Certificates of Conformity on request for every batch we supply. Contact us with your delivery date and we'll provide the documentation within 24 hours.

Both. For high-volume regular customers we recommend a scheduled supply agreement — it gives you better pricing, guaranteed availability, and we manage your stock levels proactively. For smaller or infrequent requirements, spot supply is available. Contact us to discuss what suits your operation.
